2020 Castello di Meleto Chianti Classico

Producer:

Castello di Meleto is an esteemed winery located in the heart of Tuscany, within the historic Chianti Classico region. The estate, dating back to the 11th century, boasts an extraordinary legacy of winemaking, producing wines that express the authenticity and elegance of Sangiovese, the flagship grape of the region. The vineyard’s position amidst rolling hills, at elevations between 350-500 meters, provides ideal conditions for balanced and refined wines.

Region:

The Chianti Classico appellation, located between Florence and Siena, is the oldest and most prestigious subzone of Chianti. The combination of Galestro soils, ample sun exposure, and a temperate climate ensures Sangiovese reaches optimal ripeness while retaining its hallmark acidity and structure.

Grape Variety:

Primarily Sangiovese (90-100%), with small amounts of native Tuscan varieties such as Canaiolo or Colorino to enhance balance and depth.

Tasting Notes:

• Appearance: Brilliant ruby red with slight garnet hues, indicating its youthful vibrancy and aging potential.

• Nose: The bouquet opens with intense aromas of ripe red cherries, wild berries, and plums. Floral hints of violets and dried roses are interwoven with earthy undertones, tobacco leaf, and subtle notes of spice like black pepper and clove from careful oak aging.

• Palate: Medium-bodied, with a vibrant acidity and fine, structured tannins that are classic to Chianti Classico. Juicy flavors of red cherries and raspberries dominate, balanced by notes of leather, balsamic herbs, and a touch of sweet oak. The wine is elegant and harmonious, reflecting the finesse of well-crafted Sangiovese.

• Finish: Long and refined, with lingering red fruit, a hint of savory minerality, and subtle spice that adds depth and complexity.

Food Pairing:

The 2020 Castello di Meleto Chianti Classico pairs beautifully with Tuscan dishes such as pappardelle al ragù, Florentine steak, or roasted pork with rosemary. It also complements aged Pecorino Toscano and hearty vegetable stews.

Aging Potential:

Enjoyable now for its freshness and elegance, this Chianti Classico has the structure to age gracefully for the next 5-8 years, further enhancing its complexity and depth.

The 2020 Castello di Meleto Chianti Classico is a true expression of Tuscany’s winemaking heritage. Combining freshness, balance, and tradition, it showcases the timeless beauty of Sangiovese and the unique character of the Chianti Classico terroir. PM 89
