2018 Famiglia Zonin Pinot Noir Grand Riserva Dos Almos

Producer:

Famiglia Zonin, one of Italy’s most prestigious wine families, brings its expertise to Chile through the Dos Almas project. This collaboration is a celebration of Italian winemaking tradition meeting the exceptional terroir of Chile. Dos Almas is located in the renowned Casablanca Valley, an area known for producing elegant cool-climate wines, particularly Pinot Noir, due to its coastal influence and ideal growing conditions.

Region:

The Casablanca Valley, situated between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, benefits from a cool, maritime climate. Morning fog, gentle breezes, and mineral-rich soils create the perfect environment for growing Pinot Noir, a delicate grape that thrives in cooler temperatures.

Grape Variety:

100% Pinot Noir – a varietal celebrated for its elegance, complexity, and ability to reflect the terroir.

Tasting Notes:

• Appearance: Bright, translucent ruby red with subtle garnet reflections, characteristic of a well-crafted Pinot Noir.

• Nose: The bouquet is vibrant and refined, with aromas of ripe red cherries, wild strawberries, and cranberries. Subtle floral notes of rose petals and violet intermingle with hints of forest floor, light toast, and sweet spices like cinnamon and nutmeg, showcasing the wine’s complexity.

• Palate: On the palate, this wine is medium-bodied with silky, refined tannins and a vibrant acidity that provides freshness and balance. Flavors of red berries, such as cherry and raspberry, are complemented by earthy undertones, a touch of vanilla, and delicate notes of smoked oak. The integration of oak aging adds subtle texture and enhances the wine’s elegance without overpowering its delicate fruit profile.

• Finish: A long, graceful finish, with lingering notes of red fruits, soft spice, and a hint of minerality that speaks to the Casablanca terroir.

Food Pairing:

The 2018 Grand Riserva Pinot Noir pairs perfectly with roasted duck, grilled salmon, mushroom risotto, or a charcuterie board featuring cured meats and aged cheeses like Brie or Camembert.

Aging Potential:

This wine can be enjoyed now for its freshness and elegance but will continue to evolve beautifully over the next 3-5 years, developing more complex earthy and tertiary notes.

The 2018 Famiglia Zonin Grand Riserva Pinot Noir – Dos Almas captures the essence of cool-climate Chilean Pinot Noir, elegantly marrying New World fruit expression with Old World finesse. A wine of subtlety, sophistication, and balance, it showcases the Zonin family’s commitment to excellence and their ability to bring out the best in Chile’s Casablanca Valley terroir. PM 89
